​What is the best time to visit Sunderbans?

Unlike most National parks, The Sundarbans National Park is open through out the year. But maximum tourist visit the Sundarbans National Park between September to March. Otherwise you can stay at Jharkali which is closer to the core area of the forest take the boat tours. About Safari will charge you anything between INR 3000 to 6000 per day depending upon the season you are travelling. The cost of jungle entry guide charges over and above this.

Per Head Entry Charges for Indians is Rs 100 & Rs 200 for Non Indians. Guide Charges Is Rs 500 for Indians and for Non Indians It is Rs 1000/-. For Bonnie Camp and Kalash Island the same charges apply. For Nethidhopani Watchtowers which is only watchtower inside the core area all the charges are double.

***About Guide The guides in the Sundarbans are local villagers with some extent of education and lot of knowledge about the jungle & animals. But the guides are not very competent in any other language that Bengali. If you are looking for a professional guide with knowledge of English and Hindi then you need to book one separately.

How can I go to Sundarban from Kolkata?

By Train- From Kolkata you can go to Sunderbans by a train till Canning (1 Hours) from Sealdah Station In Kolkata, and then take road transport till Godhkhali (1 Hours). From Godkhali you need to cross ferry and reach Gosaba Town (30 Minutes). From there you need to take a auto van or mechanized rickshaw van for about 45 minutes to reach Pakhirala Village where accommodation is available in various resorts & Lodges. Alternately from Canning you can take Bus, Auto or shared Jeep transportation to Jharkhali where you will find accommodation. If you are travelling by train remember these trains are public transports and does not have any reservation systems or any 1st class or 2nd class compartments. These are suburban daily commute trains for lakhs of people who come and return to the City regularly for employments & other requirements. Sometimes they tend to get overcrowded and becomes very unpleasant for tourists.

By Road- There are two popular roads connecting to Sundarban. One via Baruipur Canning which is about 100 kms from Kolkata and takes about 4 hours drive due to heavy traffic. The other road is via Basanti Highway which is longer distance but the traffic is low hence the journey time is little less. So if you want to approach Sundarbans Via Godkhali you will be dropped there and take the same ferry & land route to Pakhirala. However if you want to go to Jharkhali you can directly reach there by driving your car.
