Cyclone Dana is developing over the Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a significant cyclonic storm. Forecasts indicate that the cyclone will make landfall between October 24 and 26, primarily affecting the eastern coasts of India, particularly Odisha and West Bengal. Wind speeds could reach up to 120 km/h during the cyclone's peak.
Authorities have started large-scale evacuations in both Odisha and West Bengal, with over 1 million people being moved to safer areas. Coastal districts, such as Puri, Kendrapara, and Balasore in Odisha, and South and North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, are on high alert. Emergency shelters have been prepared, and the Indian Coast Guard is also on standby to assist with rescue and relief operations. The cyclone is expected to bring heavy rainfall and the risk of flooding, especially in low-lying areas.
